Wanting to add fragrance to your home or workspace but cannot decide whether to achieve this with wax melts or candles. The simple answer – it is a very personal choice! In this entry I will try and help you come to your own conclusion.
WAX MELTS vs CANDLES
Candles have been around forever whilst wax melts have been around for a good while but are certainly growing in popularity.
A wax melt is flame free. You place a melt in a burner either with a tea light or an electric warmer and allow the wax to melt down which in turn releases the fragrance. So, there is no open flame. Wax melts are heated slowly so they can take a little longer for the scent to be released in comparison to a candle which requires the wick to be lit, which in turns melts the wax which allows the fragrance to be released.
Wax melts can have a longer burn time. A box of 12 wax melts that we sell has a maximum burn time of 120 hours compared to a 30cl candle which has a burn time of 40-45 hours.
When it comes to fragrance and wax melts you can choose as to how much fragrance you have in your home. For example, a lot of wax melt manufacturers will recommend that you put two wax melts in your burner for a stronger scent. That is why at Birks & Amber we purposely pour our melts larger so that you only ever have to use one at a time but still giving you a fantastic scent throw. Candles on the other hand are a little more limited as you can only light one fragranced candle at a time. Often wax melts are a cheaper option to candles.
That being said, there is nothing that beats the amber glow of a candle and the atmosphere it creates in your cosy space!
